I like the petetion and the reason, however, the site asks a lot of personal information and does not appear to be a secure place to be placing such things. Sorry MIDMOTRAPPER...can't be to careful these days...would have been #71

No problem, flattail....At least it only asks for a 1/10th of what the MDC proudly displays on our permits. I did get 77 hard copies of it in circulation today.. I Hope that will bring in some more numbers.

The numbers of signatures being gathered on the petitions "OFF" the internet is really amazing!
Keep up the good work!

I taught a hunter ed class last weekend and had a good chat with our conservation agent while the students were testing. He likes the idea of the conservation number on the tag and actually looked through the codebook to see if it was already in the regulations. It wasn't, of course. I suggest that we talk to our county agent(s) and tell them what you think about the conservation number idea AND the fur sale date. The agents I have met care a lot about both the wildlife and the sportsman. They will listen and pass your concerns on to their higher ups.
There is no good reason why the fur sale deadline cannot be dropped. Every year, I dread the last few days when trappers can legally sell. Everybody waits til the last day and it is a real mess to deal with all the last day confusion. I have to admit, though, it is quite a relief to be able to take a break from buying for eight months. Most people are not going to sell their furs to a local buyer in April-October months, though. They will most likeley send them to an auction or keep them in good shape until the following season. I am all for dropping the sale deadline, but really don't think it will affect a lot of buyers and trappers. But, it does make us a little more free, which is always good.
Once again, I suggest we talk these two issues over with our agents. They will listen.
