The petitiion looks simple and too the point. I was third to sign it and you tell tell folks the only furbuyer in the Ozarks, the Old 60 Fur Shed, supports this petition 100%. What is good for the hunter, trapper, and furbearer, is good for the fur business.
Send me a hard copy of a petition and I will get plenty of local signatures. I will be surprised if MTA, which most of us belong to also, does not support this.

A sale date is the craziest thing i have heard of in my life. It is your fur you should be able to say when you are going to sell it, i have fur left from last year now.

A lot of trappers and hunter keep fur over every year and many did last year. Ain't legal but it happens. The sale date law cannot be enforced so why have it? But, frozen fur that stays in the freezer too long goes down hill so an upswing in the market is not always going to help out. I bought 12 green otters from a guy last year that were kept in the freezer from back during the high market cause he thought they would keep going up. Lost my butt on those and only gave him $8 apiece.
As a fur buyer, I would have little interest in buying fur during the summer months unless it was put up and had been kept in a cool critter free place. But, it is wrong to pressure trappers and hunters to sell their fur by a certain date. All we should need to do is fill out a little card and mail it in to MDC if they think they need the info for their records. You would not believe all the records we have to keep and sent to Jefferson City after the fur season! I know a lot of fur buyers who have been fined over the years for not having a balance between his/her purchases and sales. I spend as much time keeping records as I do buying fur on a lot of days.
It is probably too late to have any impact on this silly regulation this year, but no reason it cannot be gone by fall of 2010. State folks don't move too fast!! But, let's see what we can do. Our department will listen us if we get a lot of signatures and provide them with some reasonable alternatives.

I signed it. And i dont see why it cant be dropped now and posted next season. But if we can be rid of it by next yr i will still be happy! Thanks for the support silver fox. I will sell ya some prime fur you can make some money on. I dont care if i have to take a loss as long as we dont lose ya as a buyer! Thats just how i roll! I will help any fur buyer. As long as they understand what a trapper has to endure.
And silverfox you seem to understand this in great detail. Many many thanks.
