No, I do not get the emails alerts, but I am on their site often. I understand that they have a tough job, but simply ignoring public input based on what they "think" needs to happen instead of enforcing the laws they currently have in place is not very good for PR.... If they were to simply start enforcing creel limits, jugline, and trotline laws, they could help the fishery tremendously.... There are more Water patrol boats on the lake now there there ever has been and absolutely zero enforcement of the fishing regs. If you spend any time on LOZ, you'll see all the illegal sets I've talked about in the past... Simply changing the regs will not help. They have to start enforcing the law... and give the citizens the credit that they deserve... they are the ones fishing there afterall....
The amount of people using the lakes is one reason I don't fish there anymore. Can't stand idiots and I'd end up in jail having to deal with those jerks. Even the Mo. river is getting crowded with fisherman anymore. More and more people will just compound the problems.
This was my exact Online comment about this regulation..
"I think the situation could be handled with more enforcement of the laws in place. I grew up on LOZ and go there all the time to fish. The illegal use of Trotlines, Juglines and limblines has gotten overwhelming with no repercussions. One cannot go a half mile without seeing several trotlines that have not been used in years, unmarked limblines, jugs floatin with nobody around etc... Much less the "longline" trotlines that litter the lake at almost every turn off the main channel.... Maybe the water patrol should put as much energy in enforcing game regulations as they do "cruising" the party cove. I have fished the lake for over 20 years and have yet to see a Game warden checking anyone on LOZ running limblines, trotlines etc. I don't know if the ever increasing numbers of water patrol on LOZ have the authority to enforce game laws, but if they don't, they should and enforcement of the law should work without changing / creating new laws."
And I wanna meet the guy that sent this one in, LOL
This regulation is a crock of Bull Butter!!!! The only thing you are trying to do is increase the size Of Trophy Blue cats.. You have already said there is a healthy population. I see no reason for this or spending our tax dollars on it. Don't be surprised if you do this that somebody will get enough signatures to make it a ballot issue in Mo. Just sayin...
My understanding is that the Governor appoints the Conservation Commision members with the consent of the Senate, these are the people who pass/change the regs; biologists and others recommend (based on scientific studies), but I have been told that the Commision does not always follow the recommendations. Even with the removal from the legistature that we enjoy in Mo. conservation there are still times when the emotional outcry by the public rules the Commision (example; trophy deer). I have had several conservations with several biologists in the past that went like this; why don't you change this reg? we are working on that but the commision doesn't think it is popular.
It may not be the best posible way to regulate our resources, but the states that have legistative regulation are all the ones where the regs are imposible to understand and the AR people set the rules If we want a different commision we simply need to change the governor and influence the senate. (guess that could be described as change and hope)

farmnhunter: If you want to avoid feline, you can't use any meat or fish item or scent. Try a piece of black licorish covered by dairy feed, or lucky charms or corn/koolaid (mix 1 qt whole corn with a package of grape koolaid)
